Focus Years: 2004 | Country: France
Synopsis:
On the A6 highway, around Charnay-les-Mâcon in Saône et Loire (Burgundy, France), you can see a man standing on a bridge over the road. This man wears clothing befitting a monk. He waves a white wooden dove to salute cars and trucks driving away below. He stands there for hours, gazing at the never-ending car flow. From time to time, a driver answers his gesture, by hooting or flashing its headlights. This man is "Brother Antoine", a former monk of Burgundian abbey of Cîteaux. He lives now in a small flat in the suburbs of Mâcon. When not on the bridge over the highway, he stays at home. He spends most of his time making small woodmade crosses. He saws, sands and varnishes. That's all his life. When his hands work, his mind is free to remind old souvenirs. And sometimes, "Brother Antoine" goes on the way which brought him to the doors of the Abbey of Cîteaux, forty years ago....
