"Not a Still Life" is a documentary portrait of Steve Stone, a spirited, older gay, Jewish man who shares the naked truth of the struggles, joys and sorrows of his unconventional life. Steve tells of childhood ridicule in the 50’s, coming out and living openly gay during the decades of the 60s to the 80s; finding true love, dealing with his tragic loss, subsequent loneliness; the fact of aging and the meaning of faith in his life. His gradual evolution includes embracing sobriety, connecting with a long lost relative and discovering his spirituality - only to find that he is in danger of losing his home and business. His humor and engaging personality provokes our own reflection about the many layers of identity and emotions, that we all face at some point in our lives. Steve's story provides a glimpse into how one (emblematic) gay man of his generation navigates this journey and it offers viewers insight into how we live the journey ourselves.
