Director: Dalit Kimor | Producer: Nitza Gonen
Focus Years: 2007 | Country: Israel
Synopsis:
This is the story of eight devout Israeli Arab widows, all lacking vocational training, who decided one day to change their fate and to jointly open a 'start-up' plant for high quality pickles.
As widows with no income, they are condemned to be lonely, stay at home, and raise their children on a meager social security allowance. If they remarry, they will usually have to give up their children. In response to
their situation, they decide to join forces and open this plant for pickles though they have never held jobs before.
Fatma, a mother of 8 children, the only one of the group with a driving license, becomes the distributor. Samira, the only one who speaks Hebrew, becomes the CEO; while holding this position, she must deal with a major crisis with a daughter who is not allowed to meet with her.
The film tracks the progress and development of this unconventional start-up as these women work to improve their lives. While finding friendship and support of each other, their personal lives reflect the joys and sadness of family weddings, bereavement, and loneliness, and they face numerous hurdles as the business struggles to expand to stores throughout Israel
