Synopsis:
The father of filmmaker Bob Entrop passed the years between 1943 and 1945 as prisoner of war in the prison camps of Altengrabow and Muhlberg a/d Elbe. He wrote a book about this experience, called PRIKKELDRAAD (Barbed Wire). He belonged to the large group of soldiers who in 1943 were given the choice to report themselves voluntarily or to go into hiding. Now, 65 years later, six men between 90 and 96 years of age speak up, for the first time, about their experiences as prisoners of war and why they reported themselves voluntarily, richly illustrated with unique visual material and shots of the former prison camps. In his search, the filmmaker discovers that these soldiers were not received with open arms on their return and that this cool reception was the reason that they have never talked about that time.
