Director: Jean Pierre Thorn | Producer: Jean Jacques Beineix
Focus Years: 2006 | Country: France
Synopsis:
An epic poem – a chanson de geste – to the glory of a caravan of women holding hands on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea, in their battle against the plague of fundamentalism, openly neglecting their universal rights for equality. On foot, by bus, in taxis … under Berber tents raised each day in a different location, in the heart of the douars and slums of Morocco or in the dilapidated French towns, a handful of caravan-dwellers – Muslim and non-Muslim alike – women unite at a public site area to voice their rights, become aware of their strength and dance out their thirst for freedom. Rebelling against the fundamentalists and machos of all origins, dancing women, a banished sight. So, let’s watch them dance! “Rise and admire the buds on the almond trees / As they open up on all sides… / Oh, the season of nudity is so beautiful. / My companion, let us share in our pleasure, / And cherish this world for a moment" ("Kumtara", traditional song from North Africa).
