Synopsis:
A fountain, a pond, a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1206. A textile factory opened in 1806 and still running today. Bosses and workers, birds, industry, the river Mayenne. Work, a chapel, some gardens, a school. A village: Fontaine Daniel. A system: paternalism. In times of great global economic crisis, this village appears as a miniature world, torn between its vivid past and some inevitable metamorphosis. A small world that mirrors and questions the bigger world. At stake: work and its organisation, a company and its foundations, individuals and freedom.
