Synopsis:
"They must be called boats of death. We had no other choice."
Tens of thousands are fleeing from the North African coast, seeking safety in Europe via a dangerous Mediterranean Sea crossings. Many are Syrian refugees, many others come from Sub-Saharan Africa - all risk their lives.
Their rescue - part of the Italian Navy's 'Mare Nostrum' search and rescue operation - is the end of peril, but not of uncertainty: They must now face a new life on an unknown continent.
