After their family fled Syria, young brothers Mohamed and Youssef still were not safe. Unable to access medical treatment for serious heart and kidney conditions, they and the rest of their family were accepted for emergency resettlement in Norway.
Emergency resettlement ensures security for refugees who face serious threats in the country where they have first sought refuge. UNHCR submits over 7,000 cases for emergency resettlement annually, but only 900 places are available.
