BULGARIA IS A BIG MISTAKE TOO| 1hr : 27mins
Director: Stoyan Radev | Producer: Front Film Ltd
Focus Years: 2014 | Country: Bulgaria
Subject Tags: bulgaria, conflict, europe, governance, politics
Quality Tags: Optimistic, Slow, Activating, Harmonizing
Synopsis:
A documentary focused on the transitional years from the totalitarian regime to democracy in Bulgaria. A thorough interpretation of the period as a reference note to world-famous French philosopher and sociologist Jean Baudrillard’s notion of ‘simulation’. The film’s title is an ironic extension of Sigmund Freud’s famous quote, "America is a mistake, admittedly a gigantic mistake", which implies the Austrian scientist’s disappointment from empty American life in which money is the utmost value. The documentary consists of interviews with public figures, active in zones with the highest intensity of simulation – politics, business, media, church… Among the interviewees are Dr Lyubomir Kanov, Prof. Mihail Nedelchev, Andrey Raychev, Krasimir Gergov, Yavor Dachkov, Prof. Bogdan Bogdanov, Boris Velchev, Hristo Stoichkov, Nikolay Kolev-Bosiya, Slavi Binev, Prof. Kalin Yanakiev, and Georgi Gospodinov.
