"As I Am: Understanding the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity of Refugees" is the first educational film specifically developed to allow LGBTI refugees to tell the stories of their dire struggles in their own voices, to make the journey safer for those who follow. The individuals speak about their decision to escape and how sexual and gender minorities are often treated in countries like Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Honduras. The film touches on the hardships of coming out to their community and having no other option except to escape, in order to find a better life.
