Nineteen Eighty-Four and the Via Dolorosa Project| 22mins
Director: The Singh Twins | Producer: The Singh Twins
Focus Years: 2006 | Country: United Kingdom
Synopsis:
A semi-autobiographical art documentary exposing one of the most tragic and misrepresented human rights abuses against the Sikh community in modern times, through a detailed exploration of a painting (titled Nineteen Eighty-Four) by established artists The Singh Twins, which depicts the Indian Government's military attack on the Sikh's holy shrine (The Golden Temple, Amritsar) in 1984. Combining, artwork, narration and poetry, the film explores the artists' motivation behind the painting and the universality of innocent suffering caused by political corruption - making parallels with the Christian tradition of the Via Dolorosa or "path of pain", suffered by Jesus.
