Ifni province has ceased to be Spanish territory since 1969, when it was ceded to Morocco. In 1965, the regime of General Franco enacted a law that would prevent many of the widows of the Moroccan staff of the former colony from receiving their corresponding widows' pension. Abandoned by Spain and forsaken by Morocco, these women live in miserable conditions today.
