Between 1999 and 2002, Indonesia's Maluku islands were the scene of a violent conflict that claimed the lives of several thousand people and caused displacement of half a million. To tackle the challenge of improving the human security and enhance the social fabric of the conflict affected population, UNIDO and ILO joined forces and started a comprehensive intervention in 2009 financed through the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS).
