Synopsis:
The shore of Lake Retba (Lac Rose), the suburbs of Dakar or the conflict zone of Casamance are some of the locations for the unfolding of a choral narrative about the realities experienced by Senegalese women in their own country. Women who work in virtual slavery, writers, academics, farmers—they all compose a portrait, sometimes painful, sometimes hopeful, of the experience of being a woman in Senegal. Living in a polygamous society, suffering genital mutilation, or enduring absolute submission to men are the basis of a social and cultural tradition that these women are not ready to accept.
