Synopsis:
Is tourism a help or a hindrance to the passing on of traditional Aboriginal culture to the younger generation?
For over 40,000 years, Aboriginal people have been living in balance with their country until the white man arrived 200 years ago. Now, as the world begins to appreciate the value of many vanishing cultures, indigenous tourism is seen as a potential savior of Aboriginal cultural traditions. But is this true? Is it the help we imagine it to be, or is it a hindrance when there is a conflict between cultural authenticity and tailor made culture for profit? Our story takes us behind the scenes to investigate this complex question as we address the issue with cultural leaders and those involved in the tourism industry.
