A Year Without Magor| 1hr : 56mins
Director: Oliver Malina Morgenstern | Producer: GEM
Focus Years: 2013 | Country: Czech Republic
The film charts the kaleidoscope of stories from the book The True Story of the Plastic People, author Ivan Martin Jirous, known as Magor. Internationally award-winning Czech poet, journalist and art critic. He was imprisoned for his political views five times during the Normalization period (1968-1987). You can hear excerpts from Magor's extensive body of poetic work as well as his political and environmental views.
The film features the many prominent friends and partners of Magor's period of dissent and subsequent freedom, such as Vaclav Havel, Dagmar Vokatá, Francis Piggy Stárek, Dana Nemcova and family, Petruska Šustrová, Karel Schwarzenberg, Jirina Siklova, Eugen Brikcius, Vladimir Lábus Drápal, Vratislav Brabenec and members of the PPU, Francis Rudl, Ladislav Heryán, Jaroslav Erik Fric, John Bok, Ida Saudek, friends from Košice, Bratislava and many others.
The film highlights the lies of the totalitarian socialist regime. Trumped-up charges put people in inhumane prisons and even got others murdered at the hands of their captors. Today, again, these communist criminals who were never been punished, they want back into politics.
