Director: Veysi Altay | Producer: Veysi Altay
Focus Years: 2012 | Country: Turkey
Synopsis:
In the 1990’s, lots of people who were subject to interrogations were tortured and killed, and then their bodies were dumped into the forests, eliminated in vats of acid, or burnt in furnaces. Some of them were buried in “unknown†places with only a handful of soiltop over them. The paramilitary forces, JITEM, (Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit, Hezbol-Contra), which get their guns, money and power from the government — which seemed to exist apart from the state but were actually established by the state — kidnapped and killed people. Our documentary tells the story of the people who were killed by the government in 1990-96 in Sirnak/Cizre, where the most brutal massacres happened. You will find interviews with 10 families and lawyer of those who disappeared, as well as newspaper headlines and archival footage from that period.
