Synopsis:
The Swiss educator and philosopher Marcel Müller-Wieland (92) is a visionary. The school he envisions, promotes peace. Building community is at the core of his educational process. At the same time, he provides as much help as possible to empower each child.
His talent for storytelling is shown in formulating his vision of a humane school. Seeing the children in his school projects makes you wish you could be a child again.
There is exploring and constructing, drawing and hammering, playing music and theater, discussing and reflecting. We see children enjoying coming to school, who want to learn and work.
Grades and competition do not exist in this school. Here you learn with joy and interest.
This is a school that allows a person to find himself, a school that fosters openness and trust towards one’s self and one’s community, a school for humanity and for the future.
Politics and laws don’t serve all human needs. We need to promote a more essential education. The ability to understand and to engage co-creatively with our reality, is in man’s nature, yet has to be practiced and encouraged. Otherwise it wastes away and gives way to competitiveness. We know the consequences: greed, financial crises, destruction of nature, abuse of power, etc.
Education without fostering empathy, kindness and compassion is dangerous.
