Synopsis:
Our Compass was collaboratively created with a group of 8 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth labelled with intellectual disabilities. This diverse group comes together at Compass - a weekly drop-in for youth at Griffin Centre in north Toronto - where they actively shape a space to explore their identities and come together as a "chosen family". The documentary highlights the experiences of these youth as decision makers and agents of change and troubles the prevalent and historical paternalistic and institutional treatment of these young people as service users.
