Focus Years: 2013 | Country: United Kingdom
Synopsis:
Afar is a geographically and culturally remote part of Ethiopia. Over 90% of Afar girls are routinely subjected to female genital mutilation. This film reports on the efforts being made by UNFPA and Unicef, working together with local NGOs and religious leaders, to encourage the end of this practice. Some villages have already been persuaded and have declared themselves to be FGM-free, but in other areas there is staunch resistance.
