The dogma of GDP dominates our media, politics and public opinion: development equals growth, and growth can only be achieved through increased Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The GDP mantra dictates our decisions, our priorities and our future. In a word, our lives. Yet, amid growing ecological concerns and a devastating economic crisis, more and more people are becoming wary of the GDP dogma and are starting to realize that, in fact, economic growth might be 'the problem'. These are not only progressive economists, scientists and opinion-makers, but also many individual citizens and civil society groups people who try in their everyday lives to distance themselves from the GDP frenzy, who adopt alternative lifestyles and embrace the concept of "degrowth". This film is a journey across Italy to unveil these innovative practices and the human stories behind them.
