Synopsis:
Fengshuilin - The Hidden Sacred Forests of China is an exploration of the little-known village fengshui forests of China. Fengshuilin (fengshui forests) are common but understudied features in the rural landscapes of southern and central China. Their story is told with minimal narration, through the perspectives of nature conservation officials and researchers in Hong Kong and in nature reserves in the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi. The documentary features rare footage of trees, herbaceous plants, reptiles, insects, and village cultural features in the rugged interior mountains of subtropical China. The film is a visually stunning exploration of an ancient feature in the cultural landscape that is unknown to outsiders, including most contemporary residents of urban China.
