Director: Pete Holmes | Producer: Pete Holmes
Focus Years: 2009 | Country: New Zealand
Synopsis:
"The number 1080 will probably not have much significance to anyone who has not lived in New Zealand for very long. However this number brings up suspicion, fear and anger in the hearts of many locals. Compound 1080 or monosodium fluoroacetate is a toxin, a lethal poison that has been used for over four decades to control one main invader to New Zealand's bio-security: the Australian Bushtail Possum.
1080 is a documentary film that attempts to introduce some balance into the often heated discussion about the use of 1080 poison in New Zealand. Filmmaker's Steve Ting and Pete Holmes wade through the scientific evidence to see what effect 1080 is having on the New Zealand environment as well as trying to understand the root of this argument that has divided the country for over 30 years."
