MUDDIED WATERS looks at the troubles facing Australia’s Murray River and the Murray Darling Basin, seen through the eyes of scientists, environmental experts and farmers. Australian farmers have lived and worked with the country’s major river system for more than two hundred years, but many are giving up, believing no one is interested in listening to them and accusing them of being the major cause of the problem. The widely held belief is that the Murray Darling Basin and Lower Lakes of the Coorong, are dying due to over-allocation of water licenses and if the government simply reduces the amount of water taken by food producers and returns it to the rivers, all will be well.
