Synopsis:
DOC: Who would consider soya suspicious? As a symbol of a vegetarian diet, soy is usually associated with nature, balance, and health. So what a surprise it is to be told that today this legume is putting the whole Amazon rainforest in jeopardy with potentially devastating consequences. The soybean has become one of the most consumed products, especially since the mad cow epidemic ravaged several countries. At this point in time, there is a pressing need for increasing soybean production in order to tackle demand inflation. Consequently, huge fields are commandeered for soybean cultivation. But turning the rainforest into planting fields could cause spectacular harm to the whole continent and beyond.
