Focus Years: 2013 | Country: Denmark
Synopsis:
Imagine snapshots from the existing food industry. Grown, cut or slaughtered pigs. Food exported thousands of kilometers, processed and packaged, redirected. Imagine a supermarket. A freezer. A dinner table. This lifestyle has enormous consequences. Pollution. Energy waste. Low-quality food produce. Is the only life we can imagine?
We want to redesign Denmark as a country that eats and produces food locally. We make a scale economy and see what the landscape would look like. What would the transport corridors look like in this kind of utopian economy? No imported food. Short trips between producer and consumer. Fields might contain multiple crops that grow together in a dynamic ecosystem.
Imagine a map of Denmark showing human density today. Maybe we will need more farmhands in the future economy. Maybe they will be part-time urban and country-dwellers. What will economy of scale mean to the territory of Denmark. Physical mapping and reshaping.
Imagine a map of Denmark built with grains from wheat. A monoculture agriculture. It changes into a landscape of free-range pigs, grazing of a landscape of flowers, wheat and chickens on rooftops. This is a dream landscape. It demands a complete change of lifestyle and attitude.
ReDane offers a possible map for how Denmark could look in the future.
