Baikal without boundaries| 38mins
Director: Mikhail Chumak | Producer: Sergey Kudelya
Focus Years: 2014 | Country: Russian Federation
Synopsis:
The project provides for a lot of landscape and location shooting, which will allow vivid and convincing demonstration of the Baikal in different seasons. Describing the lake as an integral ensemble of the water elements, we will try to draw attention to the major rivers flowing into it. Their banks are inhabited by the indigenous nations of Russia and Mongolia, and they still have their unique cultural identities. It is required, as seen through the idea and message of this project, to film the most significant and expressive life scenes of the people living there: ethnographical celebrations, handicrafts and rituals. Viewers should also hear the local people speak their original dialects. The camera will pay attention to every important cultural phenomenon: architecture, costumes, handicrafts, living evidence and memories. The other plot line is the nature conservation issue. Our goal is to introduce it basing on the material filmed by actual research missions. We have to show, carefully and with due attention, the work done by scientists and to say how important their activities are. The interaction between ethnography, cultural heritage and science will allow vivid and comprehensive coverage of the project's topic.
