Lake Banganga-An arrow shot for water| 18mins
Director: Raj Vasant Shinge | Producer: Manik Raj Shinge
Focus Years: 2010 | Country: India
Synopsis:
My documentary talks about the Banganga which is one of the most beautiful lakes in Mumbai. The believers make offerings to their ancestors praying for peace on this special day of ‘Sarvapitri amavasya’ i.e. the day of the new moon. This unshakable faith in the existence of the afterlife and this ritual of worshipping and offering at Banganga has continued from generation to generation. People throng to Banganga Lake for their offerings in memory of the departed souls. Under the trash and oil slicks caused by the panda, fishes die on this day. People take baths in this polluted lake, together. This ridiculous practice happening in the name of our forefathers unmindfully pollutes the water in the lake.
