Sitting on Water| 20mins
Director: Will Atlas | Producer: QQS
Focus Years: 2014 | Country: Canada
Synopsis:
This film documents the design, implementation, and operation of a traditional-style sockeye salmon fish weir along the Koeye River on BC's central coast, in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest. In capturing this Heiltsuk Nation example of cultural revitalization paired with innovative field techniques, 'Sitting on Water' challenges colonial stereotypes of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) by showing how TEK is not always a side note to Western science, but often affirms it - and even leads it - in First Nations research and monitoring efforts.
