Synopsis:
A Bengali soul reflects lyrically over history and across continents. "Beyond Brick Lane - Bengali Reflections On Today's East End" was a free film-making project for people connected to the East End. The result was the production of eight short films. Marking the 250th anniversary of The Battle of Plassey, in which the British East India Company seized control of Bengal, and the 60th anniversary of the end of the ensuing colonization of the region, Beyond Brick Lane looked back at the points of history where London meets Bengal, and also forward, asking: what does it mean to fit in, what should we be aspiring to, and how can an interconnected but turbulent past best lead to a harmonious future?
