Director: Daniel Kunzi | Producer: Daniel KUNZI
Focus Years: 2008 | Country: Switzerland
Synopsis:
The right to strike is a human right. It is guaranteed by a series of articles of law, as is the right to liberty of expression. Nevertheless, the workers of the La Boillat factory in Switzerland discovered that these rights are actually not guaranteed in Switzerland, a country renowned for its rule of law.
In 2006, the 350 workers of this metallurgical factory went on strike for 37 days. They occupied the plant to protest against delocalization. The management’s response was brutal. After ten days, the head of the personnel commission was fired, after which they sacked all the executive staff. And while it was deploying these dictatorial methods, reminiscent of another era, management also threatened to fire any employees who talked to the media.
This documentary retraces the history of the strike. It reveals a rarely seen and astonishing image of Switzerland.
