Hunger in the Heartland| 27mins
Director: Thomas Sawyer | Producer: Deb Engle and Thomas Sawyer
Focus Years: 2014 | Country: United States
Synopsis:
Hunger in the Heartland was created to help educate Iowans about the goal of alleviating childhood hunger by 2015—and the many ways people throughout the state are working toward that goal in their own communities. The video will inspire others to get involved by tapping into or creating a network wherever they live.
We'll put a face on the hunger issue by telling the stories of families who are dealing with food insecurity. In addition, we'll address these primary topic areas:
• Access to food
• The link between obesity and hunger
• The impact of hunger on child development
• The role of gardens (community, school, church) in alleviating hunger
• Government and extension services
• Food rescue programs
We hope this program and the accompanying Resource Guide will serve as a template for other states to follow to alleviate childhood hunger in their own communities.
