Afghanistan: Reconstructing Through Theatre| 51mins
Director: Alexandra Paraboschi | Producer: Alexandra Paraboschi
Focus Years: 2008 | Country: France
Synopsis:
Established Afgani artists, as well as the young generation, ardently defend contemporary theatre. The horror of war and its consequences, the condition of women, the Taliban regime and corruption are topics tackled by Afganis themselves. Afgani actresses understood how theater can play a real part in the reconstruction of their country. It gives human nature a mirror in which to reflect, and allows the audience to wonder and think. Brave and committed, these women break taboos of society and play on stage. In Kandahar, a southern province always kept under the influence of the Taliban, men and women risk their lives when they perform theater. For them, theater is more than art; it is a vehicle for peace.
