In the 1980s, Giancarlo was a wealthy man. He had a wife and daughter and was full of plans. But then he lost everything and had to start all over again. His thirty-something stepson Cristian is a sensitive underachiever who spends his days in dreamy procrastination. Cristian feels crushed by a world that seemingly holds no opportunities for him and ends up blaming Giancarlo. Stuck between past glories and present struggles, this family's story closely mirrors the state of a country, Italy, itself struggling for a future.
