Somalia: Deported into Danger| 2mins
Director: UNHCR | Producer: UNHCR
Focus Years: 2010 | Country: Switzerland
Synopsis:
The ongoing conflict in Somalia between the transitional government and the Al-Shabaab militants has displaced over a million Somalis and pushed hundreds of thousands to neighboring countries seeking asylum. Among these countries is Saudi Arabia, where many Somali refugees have been living for years, raising a family and trying to find work despite having no legal papers. The conditions in Somalia clearly do not allow for their safe return home yet, even though peace is all they are waiting for to go back. But thousands are being deported to Mogadishu by the Saudi authorities, despite the risks for their very lives this involves, and end up living in camps of makeshift cloth huts.
