Focus Years: 2008 | Country: United States
Synopsis:
"Epiphany at Chornobyl" revisits the site of the world's worst nuclear accident at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. Surrounding Chornobyl were several highly contaminated villages which were abandoned after the reactor explosion on April 26, 1986. Despite the intense radiation, many residents returned to their homes including Baba Maria who joins the other remaining Chornobyl residents and their guests, along with the nuclear plant workers in celebrating the Orthodox feast day of Epiphany, in which water is blessed and washes away all evil—even radiation.
Note: "Chornobyl" is the Ukrainian transliteration for "Chernobyl."
