Synopsis:
Beauty.Goodness.Truth. Some journeys start in the middle. For New York-based jazz drummer, producer and composer, Jaimeo Brown, this pathway finds itself at a crucial juncture. In the following months after the release of his first recording as a bandleader, the critically acclaimed "Transcendence", the stage is set as we follow the preparation of Jaimeo’s first international tour, with acclaimed veteran saxophonist JD Allen and Grammy winning producer Chris Sholar. During intense rehearsals, the notion of “discovery†and exploration of ideals leads to an impromptu visit down to Gee’s Bend, Alabama, wherein lie the roots of the spirituals that provide inspiration not only in Jaimeo’s music but also in his everyday interactions with family and community. In Gee’s Bend, Jaimeo finally meets with China Pettway, Mary Ann Pettway, Lorraine Pettway, Mary Lee Bendolph and Reva Mosley, the closelyÂâ€knit family group of quilters/singers known as “The Singers of Gee’s Bend.†It is here in Gee’s Bend, Jaimeo seeks to find an understanding on why this musical tradition drives the much needed direction in his life. Weaving between conversations and inspiration in Alabama to musical and personal explorations in New York, this documentary portrait of a musical artist follows the lessons of the past, the trials in the present and the hopefulness for the future. Here, everyone is invited to take part in Jaimeo Brown's transcendence.
