Focus Years: 2012 | Country: Brazil
Synopsis:
Far-West Amazônia is not "one more documentary" about the devastation of Amazonian forest. By immersing itself into the intimacy of a few farmers' families isolated in the heart of the forest, Far-West Amazônia shows an unknown (and yet essential to the understanding of the problem) point of view: that of these modest farmers who rushed from all the Brazil in the 1970s to colonize the region, before they were abandoned to their destiny, and are today designated guilty of an ecological crime... of which they are also the first victims.
Immersed in the daily life of this small community cut off from the rest of the world, the intimate camera sensitively renders the feelings and thoughts of these men and women on which the fate seems to be striving. Today, they are prisoners of an impossible equation to solve : preserve their only wealth and heritage - the forest while fighting daily for his family's survival. In this infinite setting, adversity has welded these individuals and weave a tight network of solidarity, focused around the 3 pillars of the Brazilian culture: the School, the Church and the Football field.
