Synopsis:
The Academy of Achievement brings students face-to-face with the extraordinary leaders, visionaries and pioneers who have helped shape our world. In 1993, Greg Mortenson stumbled from the slopes of the peak known as K2 into a Pakistani village, where the villagers cared for him until he recovered. He vowed to return and build a school for their children. In the mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan, war and poverty have limited education for all, while custom has denied education to women altogether. Mortenson went on to found the Central Asia Institute to promote education and literacy in this remote and volatile region. He has founded more than 60 schools, providing educational opportunities to over 25,000 children, over half of them girls. He has related the story of his adventurous life and humanitarian vision in the memoir "Three Cups of Tea".
