Since his youth, Amit Dagan, 33, has been seeking answers about existential questions. This film follows Amit and his daily struggle for sanity. After using a hallucinogenic mushroom during his travels in Central America, Amit became mentally ill. The popular kibbutz boy from Ein Harod who is good-looking, intelligent, and witty turned into a wreck. Gonen, 33, who is the film-maker, is also Amit's best friend from the time they served together in the army. Gonen sets out on a 10-year journey documenting his best friend. "Moonstruck Man" is a riveting documentary about friendship, insanity, and "a lost generation."
