Synopsis:
In Bangladesh and in West Bengal of India, 75 million people are currently contaminated by arsenic contained in the water they consume daily, and the people are dying silently from cancer and other complications. It is considered today to be the worst mass poisoning in human history. According to the World Health Organization, the extent of this human disaster exceeds those of Bhopal in India and Chernobyl in Ukraine. Through the personal accounts of Asma and Nazma, two young sisters who have been seriously contaminated by arsenic, whose mother is dead by the same consequences; and Rekha, a young woman, rejected by her husband will give us their version of the story when the scientists are examining the causes and effects of the arsenic water poisoning to help in the fight against contamination. There is no obvious medical solution for those suffering from arsenic water poisoning other than to drink plenty of clean, uncontaminated water and eat a plentiful, balanced diet. However, experiments with homeopathic treatment have produced some encouraging results. This film, "The Devil's Water", will hopefully alert worldwide attention to the dreadful humanitarian and environmental threat of arsenic water poisoning, both in Bangladesh and neighbouring countries.
