Director: Guido De Bruyn | Producer: Lea Van Egdom
Focus Years: 2009 | Country: Belgium
Synopsis:
During the Middle Ages, all dogs were driven from the inner cities for hygienic reasons. The disappearance of dogs from city life was once the end project by the Belgian student in architecture, Francis Alÿs.
He has now lived and worked as an artist in Mexico city for over two decades. He is both a critical and poetic writer of chronicles of city life. His drawings, paintings, films, and objects touch the very soul of Latin American culture. Art may not be able to save the world, but may be a cause for reflection.
His country of birth has remained unaware of his talents, but internationally Alÿs is a renowned artist.
