Synopsis:
The old Canal du Centre was once one of the busiest shipping routes in Europe. A series of locks, moveable bridges and hydraulic lifts control the flow of traffic up and down the canal. The machines are manually controlled by “les pontiers”, whose jobs have remained virtually the same for over a hundred years. An intimate portrait showing the balance between human and machine.
