"Beyond Everest" features eighty years old Sir Edmund Hillary's final working visit to the Sherpa people of Nepal, to whom he has dedicated the last 40 years of his life. Hillary reminisces about his past adventures and his work with the People of Everest which has given him far more satisfaction than a footprint on a mountaintop. Together they have built 30 schools, two hospitals and much more. Accompanied by his son Peter and old Everest comrade George Lowe, he visits the schools he has built. In a Tibetan Buddhist Monastry he helped build, he is made an honorary lama. All these events have special poignancy because everyone realises that this visit may be his last.
