Synopsis:
This film documents an unique initiative by the People's Coalition on Climate Change. As the discourse on climate change in India systematically bypassed the authentic ecosystem-dependent communities such as the adivasis, forest people, dalits, fishers, pastoralists a group of grassroots civil society organizations came together to form this coalition and take the debate directly to the local communities. Through a series of participatory exercises conducted with over 12 locations in five ecoystems and covered over 20 communities from Phek District of Nagaland, Narmada Valley of Madhya Pradesh, Baigachak of Chhattisgarh, Bhimora of Gujarat, Deogarh of Jharkhand, Niyamgiri Hills and Chilka of Orissa, Kodaikanal, Gulf of Mannar and Sivakasi of Tamil Nadu, Sunderbans of West Bengal and Zaheerabad of Andhra Pradesh, the Coalition was able to facilitate the communities to bring out their own charter on climate crisis. This is an inspirational charter that embodies the hopes and strengths that is characteristic of the local communities in India. The DDS Community Media Trust is an autonomous group of marginalized rural peasant women, most of who are non-literate and dalits. The Community Media Trust makes its own films on issues of relevance to them and communities such as themselves across India. In order to produce Community Charter on Climate Change, the women of CMT traveled across India to different locations where the participatory exercises were taking place and documented every step of these exercises.
