Synopsis:
The DuPont mega corporation, which profited greatly from supplying and supporting Hitler and the Nazis during World War Two, wants to hold the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia hostage to its proposed titanium mine along the entire Eastern boundary of the Refuge. Over 93 percent of all titanium mined in the world is used as a white pigment for paint, plastics and paper. The mineral enhances the consumer appeal of these products, with shine and gloss, which DuPont sells. The mining is done by dredging the earth, a process which destroys all life for shiny consumer products. The mineral is even used to enhance the appeal of, for example, eye shadow, toothpaste and Oreo cookies. For this, DuPont would drain the Okefenokee of its pristine waters, killing the vast array of wildlife, faun and flora. Tremendous grassroots opposition, creating costly negative publicity for the corporation, eventually forced DuPont to abandon their intended destruction - a great victory for the natural world and grassroots solidarity.
