The Mud| 51mins
Director: Hee Yah Ong | Producer: Hee Yah Ong
Focus Years: 2007 | Country: Singapore
Synopsis:
It’s one of the worst and biggest environmental accidents of all time, that happens in the middle of a residential and commercial district: molten mud bursting from beneath the earth’s surface, displacing hundreds of villages and residents. It started off as a small pool of mud that has now grown into a frightening inland sea. The place is Sedorja, Indonesia. Geologists have estimated that the mud will continue to flow for the next 30, and maybe 100 years! Everyday, 125,000 cubic meters are being ejected from beneath the ground. This documentary goes behind the headlines of the news stories to look at the efforts to contain it, the victims and the effect on the environment.
