Synopsis:
Filmed on location in the Komodo Island Marine Park in Indonesia, "Saving the Dragon" takes the viewers into the heart of the Coral Triangle. In this critical habitat, the Nature Conservancy has taken on the challenge of establishing the first management plan to save this ecosystem plagued by destructive fishing with dynamite and cyanide. The Coral Triangle is the heart of marine biodiversity in South East Asia with more than 25 percent of all known aquatic species living within its borders. The Nature Conservancy has developed the 25-year plan to build mari-culture as a replacement for traditional destructive fishing in the hope of satisfying the live Asian fishery that supports most of the small island economies. The plan also develops a tourism management system with regulated park fees and a marine park patrol force. Narrated by award-winning underwater film-maker Stan Waterman, this film takes the viewers below the surface for seldom seen view of life beneath the waves as well as above....
