Bottled Water or Tap Water| 5mins
Director: Martha Spiess | Producer: Martha Spiess
Focus Years: 2007 | Country: United States
Synopsis:
Safe, clean water is the foundation for our thriving communities. Bottled water is its nemesis. “The Plastic Bottled Water Story†includes petrochemical plastics production and discharge. Bottled water intensifies the garbage crisis. It intensifies the climate change crisis. Bottled water production fouls those very sources of clean water that remain, and from which it draws. By nurturing safe, clean tap water, each person can help erase the bottled water footprint. Narrated by Emily (7th grade student), this film was initially a Maine College of Art introductory film-making course project, exploring the specific impact of a bottled water industry (Nestlé) upon sustainable communities and the state (Maine, U.S.A.). But it reflects a wider, burgeoning struggle to preserve and to control public community (sanitary) infrastructure posited by a youthful generation.
