Synopsis:
The story of Kandal Pokkudan is a real-life documentary on THE life and work of a low caste man from rural south India. As his name suggests, Kandal (Mangrove) Pokkudan (name given to low caste people) is the guardian angel of Mangroves, initiated the grassroots movement for its preservation. Pokkudan started planting mangroves at the age of 52, and that created a large area of mangroves forests in the Kannur district of Kerala. In four decades, the mangrove forest area in the state of Kerala had dropped from over 700 square kilometers to a paltry 17 square kilometers. Kannur still has nearly 45 percent of the state’s remaining wetlands, thanks mostly to Pokkudan’s initiatives.
